5 Signs you should be eating more Protein
It can be tricky to determine the right amount of protein to consume in your diet since the recommended intake of protein is a broad range, in comparison to a number. This is due to your activity level and weight influencing where your ideal intake falls.
Here are some of the signs that your body is in need of more protein:
1. Are you craving sweets?
Craving sweets is one of the first signs that your body is in need of more protein. You are never quite feeling full, and start to crave sweets. Protein’s most critical function is to keep your blood sugar steady – in other words if your lacking protein, your glucose levels will be fluctuating encouraging you to get a sugar fix.
2. Does your brain feel foggy?
In order to stay focused your body needs to balance blood sugar levels. When you are protein deprived and glucose levels are fluctuating, this may create a foggy feel, and therefore you may lack in concentration. Protein helps to encourage the slow release of carbs for steady energy throughout the day rather than fluctuating spikes.
3. Is your hair falling out?
Protein is the building blocks of all your cells including hair follicles. By adding more protein to your diet you will strengthen these follicles.
4. Feeling weak?
As most of you know, protein is necessary in order to build muscle. Your muscles may start to shrink over time if not enough protein is consumed, resulting in inability to do the exercises you once excelled at and/or the feeling of weakness.
5. Always getting sick?
Protein is essential to build all the components in our immune system. A protein deficiency may be to blame if you seem to catch colds or infections more than others and you’re otherwise in good health. Strength of the skin may also be weaker due to a shortage of protein as cracks and tear in nails may be prominent.
